Laura Peters, MA
Laura Peters, M.A. is a Qualified Instructor of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction who blends mindfulness with insights from nature and neuroscience. Laura completed her training with the Center for Mindfulness at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center founded by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn, the pioneering creator of MBSR. She has completed trauma-sensitive mindfulness training with Dr. David Treleaven and Dr. Willoughby Britton, the Mindfulness-Based Mind Fitness Training (MMFT) course with Dr. Elizabeth Stanley, and the Direct Your Own Care Journey course with Dr. David Hanscom. She is an award-winning honors graduate of The University of Michigan and Cornell University.
Laura’s courses blend elements of the MBSR curriculum with insights from neuroscience, trauma-informed practices, and an evolving understanding of the mind-body connection. Her academic background in literature gives her a storytelling approach to teaching. She strives to balance light-heartedness with reflection and movement with stillness, gently recalibrating the nervous system.
Laura draws on decades of experience working with groups to build community, strengthen teamwork and improve performance as an instructor at Cornell University, the marketing manager of a natural foods cooperative store, and 18 years’ service as a health care Human Resources professional.
Laura rejuvenates with dancing, making music, gardening, volunteering, and with her family, reveling in the natural beauty of gorges and waterfalls in her upstate New York community.
